No Other Foundation

There's no other healer than Jesus. Whether we're talking physical or spiritual healing, the source is the same. God hasn't given us any other “name under heaven” to call upon for salvation.

When Peter is pressed to explain how a paralytic man was healed, he answers:

“Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:8–12).

The day before, Peter was walking to the temple and came across a man lame since birth. In the power of Christ, the man was healed and Peter took advantage of the gathering crowd to address the people. Peter was standing there, preaching to the very people who crucified Jesus. After this, the religious leaders put the preacher in jail.

On the next day, he's being interrogated about this healing. Just like he did in his sermon, he boldly points the people to Christ.

“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

As much as they're guilty, God offers them his Son as their savior. And Peter emphasizes that there's nowhere else for them to turn. There's nobody else to turn to but Jesus.

Wow, the swirl of confusion. You can hear their minds crunching. You mean to tell me the guy we just killed is actually the Son of God? He's no longer dead? We have to entrust our souls to him, believing that he died and rose again for us? We need saving and he's the savior?

Their unbelief is confronted at every turn. Jesus isn't who they thought. Jesus' death wasn't a judgment for his blasphemy but for their sin. Jesus isn't dead but alive.

The builders had rejected the foundation. But the one rejected has become the cornerstone (Acts 4:11; Ps 118:22). In a world of confusion, the clarion call of the Bible is that Christ is all! He's the only foundation on which to place your trust. He's the only savior under heaven. Beloved, you can build your life on that.
